Ready for something new? Check out the dark, sexy sounds of HardLeft,
and be sure to buy their debut CD, Underbelly! But first, take a look at their exclusive interview with BikiniGreats.com!
BG: Alright, so first off, how did HardLeft come together?
Doug: Mario and Geno came to see the band I was in at the time,
and that’s how we met. I first thought Mario wanted to fight me, but soon realized he’s just an edgy kind of guy.
Mario: Geno’s my cousin, so we go way back. The three of us have been working
together for years now in different projects, alongside many other musicians.
Geno: At first, Doug and I were
both used to being the only guitarist, so we had to learn how to share. We’re all family now, so Doug can stay. [laugh]
BG:
Aww. You're just one big happy family. How cute! What motivated you to make the type of music you do?
Doug: [cough] Herbs.
Geno: We’ve always been drawn to dark musical moods,
and the intensity that comes with them.
Mario: We’ve got a million happier songs in our writing catalog, but we grew tired of that horse. It’s time
to ride the dark one. So to speak.
BG: How
would you describe your music to somebody who had never heard it before?
Mario:
People in trouble, questioning their handling of it, and trying to escape.
Doug: . . . Or a sexy
romp with some friends, in a big haystack of emotions. Ahhhh!
BG:
[laugh] What kind of message do your listeners get from your music?
Doug: Damn! That’s a GREAT hit song . . . about a fucked up situation! [laugh]
BG: What did everybody do before they were in HardLeft?
Mario: We were whores for various trades, just like everybody
else. We still are! Woohoo!
BG: What
have you most enjoyed since you started HardLeft?
Geno: The
power that these songs have, it almost seems to climb out of the speakers. Truly worth the price of admission.
Doug:
Working late at night in the lab. Creating. Conjuring. Cackling. I’m sorry, what was the question? [laugh]
BG:
Hmm... Were you scared shitless when you first started to perform? How about now?
Doug: Nah, never scared. There’s always a good sense of nervousness,
though, right before you go on stage to show the crowd your soul. It actually drives your energy, and makes you say, “C’mon
guys! Let’s make ‘em wonder about our sanity!”

BG: What about your band has changed since you first started playing?
Mario: Our music went from
light to dark, but our songwriting gets better and better. We’ve also been fortunate to work with some killer people
throughout the years, and learned a lot.
BG: What are some of the band's goals and ambitions?
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Mario:
In 10 years, we’re gonna be doing another interview with you, where we’ll fondly look back on when we were
some broke-dick-dogs, trying to pawn our stuff off on the unsuspecting listeners. [laugh]
BG:
Another interview? I'm holding you to that! So, what kind of music do you listen to personally? Who's
your favorite artist?
Geno: We’re
just big fans of a well-written song. It can be by anybody. Our CD collections look like a music store variety, although Country
and Rap are very seldom let through our doors.
BG: Not big fans of country and rap? Well, whatta ya know - we've got something in common. Okay, so if
you weren't making music, what do you think you'd be doing right now?
Doug: Having a fit in an asylum.
BG: Why's that so easy to believe? Alright, now tell the truth. Do guys
in bands really get all the babes?
Mario:
Yeah, you find that out real quick, but you soon learn that it’s not always a GOOD thing. Here’s the equation:
Quantity doesn’t mean quality.
BG:
Aww. Too many girls fighting over you, you poor thing. You just came out with your debut CD. What are your
thoughts? What can we expect from the CD?
Doug: Yayyy, it’s done! Let’s start on the next one! [laugh[ By the way, there’s a hidden track at the
end of this CD, so be sure to let it play on through the night, my kiddies. Bwahahaaa!
Geno: If another band
made this CD, we’d have to kick their asses and steal it from them. That’s how much we love it.
Mario:
So many great songs didn’t make the final cut, so we might release an EP at some point with a few of those on there.
BG: Well, personally, I'm a huge fan of your CD, and I can't wait to hear more from you
guys! Oookay, last but not least, is there anything else you would like to add or promote?
